Thank god grilling season is upon us! I like a good roasted chicken and sauteed veggie, but I’m SO ready for those sweet little char marks on my steak and turkey burger.
I’m not touching the grill though. I’ve been known to panic and overcook my meat and totally ruin it. Like, not edible. And, also I have no clue how to turn a grill on, so there’s that.
In this house, I leave the grilling to the husby, who might I add, is really good at it. That said, we are stoked to try some new rubs, sauces and techniques. And, when I say “we”, my part will be sitting on the sidelines and directing operations while I sip on a grown-up bevvy.
I’ll also assist with the eating part. Obviously.

GRILLIN LIKE A VILLIAN
Was stoked to run into the mailman the day this box arrived. Not only was it a thousand degrees and perfect grilling weather, but I could almost smell the deliciousness penetrating from the box.
Our box was filled with 4 items and sadly, one was broken so we never got to taste it. Wah.
The first item we pulled out was this Lower East Side Brisket Rub from The Killer Cook. Retail: $6 bucks.Guys, I have no clue what brisket is but this rub seems like a win for any ol’ meat you throw on the barby. Kosher Salt, Fresh Ground Black Pepper, Coriander, and Spices. It smells AMAZING and is made in Port Jeff, NY (super duper close to where the hubs grew up). It’s like we’re besties already!
We also got a Jamaoca Chili Rub from The Killer Cook and this smelled even yummier than the briskety stuff.
You might not know this about me, but me and dry rubs go together like steak and potates. And, this is infused with Coffee, so I’m basically having heart palpitations just having it on my person. A unique blend of Colombian coffee, Dutch coco, cayanne peppers, and bbq seasonings. Perfection. Retail: $6 bucks.
We received two sauces as well, both from Big BoB Gibson…oh, you know…Big Bob Gibson? Anyway, apparently the mixologists behind these sauces own a few BBQ joints in Alabama and they’ve got like, a bajillion awards, so it must be good.
The Original White Sauce was a total intrigue, but unfortunately, we didn’t get to taste it because the bottle had a tiny break in it. They say it’s an all-purpose sauce with a tangy peppery taste that goes well with poultry, pork, seafood, and wild game and I’ll take their word for it. Definitely different than anything we’ve tried. Retail $4.75.
This sauce was GOOD. It’s been raining here every day since the box arrived so we haven’t gotten to try it on a meat yet, but I did the ol’ spoon taste test and it was SO yummy. Kind of sweet, with a spicy lil’ afterthought. Can’t wait for the clouds to part so we can plop this on some chicken and taste it the proper way. Retail: $4.75
WHAT’S IT GONNA COST?
There are a variety of subscriptions to choose from, including:
- One Month, for $32.95 per month
- Three or Six Months, for $29.95 per month
- Twelve Months for $27.95 per month
ARE WE ALL GRILLED OUT?
Um, no. This box was so fun to get and gave us the opportunity to try some rubs and spices we probably wouldn’t have gotten a hold of (or thought to try) otherwise. A plus, plus, plus, plus.
Okay, I have to go sniff these rubs again. No big deal.
