Raise your hand if you’re a toddler mama (or mama to other small human middle-school-ish and younger) and have zero time to make healthy lunches, let alone come p with the recipes. Um, my hand is raised and pretty much waving like a lunatic over here…OMG.
Before I was a mama, I thought I knew everything about parenting (you know you did it too). Anyway, I had stumbled upon this blog and was like, I’m TOTALLY going to make lunches like this for my future child. Cue, snapshot of lunch I will never, ever make for my kiddo because I have zero time or ambition to do this in my life:
And, now I laugh at the idiot me, who actually thought I’d have a shred of time in my life to turn not-dogs into octopuses, and mold rice into seastars. But seriously, if you’re doing this for your kiddos? You’re amazing. Legit, a rock star.
The point of this story (yes, there is a point) is that I don’t have time. You probably don’t have time. And, your kid is probably going to turn his or her nose to anything you create anyway, because they are shady like that. So, you need a solution. Like, a healthy meal, that’s already prepared and sitting in your fridge. All you have to do is pull it out and call your parenting jobs for the day done. Mimosa’s anyone?

OUR HEALTHY LUNCHES
I was impressed with Nomsly from the second I first came across them on Instagram. To be honest, the pics of their food is what drew ME in (forget my kid!) – everything looked really clean and healthy. So, I had to check em’ out! Anyway – Last week we received a box full of fabulous lil’ lunches for my lady bug. And, I have to say, I was just as impressed with the in-person version as I was the Insta versions that first got me hooked.
The packaging is clean, simple and showcases all of the deliciousness inside each little lunch pack. Each meal had a fun name corresponding to the goodies inside: We received General Chow, Fiesta, Salute, Cha Cha Cha and Brunch for Lunch.
Each meal is from 350 to 500 calories, which is in the appropriate range for toddlers and young kids. And, the meals are designed according to the principles of the USDA My Plate guidelines. Nice!
I’ll be honest. My daughter is going through one of those I love carrots phases. You know, the kind where she LOVES carrots and within literally 7 seconds can’t stand the sight of carrots and launches them across the room. Yeah. That’s happening (along with pottying herself, choosing her own outfits, sleeping in a big-girl bed…ALL. AT. ONCE).
So, I was pretty nervous about how she’d react to the meals, considering they were filled with lots of stuff she hadn’t tried before (like Jicama! What?). It was a risk on my part, but one worth taking. And, well – we were 50/50.
She ate the fruit out of each one, but wouldn’t touch much of anything else. Apparently any kind of wrap or sandwich is “disgusting” (even though last week, wraps were her jam). I however, did try EVERYTHING and thought the food was incredibly fresh and yummy.
The pluses for me were the “main course” of the lunches – like the brown rice with edamame, chicken, carrots and soy sauce in the General Chow and the turkey, quinoa and kale meatballs in the Salute! (picture above). Did I mention I have no time? Well, that means my girl gets a lot of “basics” – healthy ones, but basic ones. So, it was nice to have some new stuff for her to dig (or in our case, refuse to dig unless it was fruit) into.
The minuses, were on our part really. I mean, some of the flavors were a bit advanced for picky toddlers, but if your toddler has a more advanced pallet(like, ours…on her terms obvi), it’s a really great way to keep them excited about eating lunch.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
- PICK YOUR MEALS: They provide about 9-ish options each week and you pick the 5 you’d like to serve up to your kiddo. Recipes are nutritionist designed and named creatively (like Zoodley Noodle and Mangia Mangia). Oh, and they do a complete rotation every 3 weeks to keep things interesting.
- RECEIVE YOUR MEALS: The lunches ship overnight (insulated) for arrival on Saturday, so everything is fresh and awesome. Stick it in your fridge, sit back and pretend you’re a celeb with a personal chef.
Oh, and they send these adorable little stickers for your little love to stick on stuff.
WHAT’S IT GONNA COST?
The have both standard and vegetarian options to choose from. Each week’s worth of meals (5 of em’) will run you $35 bucks. And, you choose how many kids you have when you register – so, if you need to order for 2 kids (and yourself, because you’re a kid too and these meals are totally Mama friendly), you’d pick 3 and pay $105 per week.
This averages out to $7 bucks per meal. And, for some that might be pricey. But, don’t forget that it’s nutritionist approved, chef created, packed and shipped to your door. Literally all you have to do is pull it out of the box, stick it in the fridge, pull it out at lunch and open it. So, you pay a bit extra for the convenience – fo, sho. Get the meals Bonus! WILL I NOMS AGAIN?
Yes! I would totally order this again, but probably not while my daughter is in this picky stage. I ended up eating 90% of these meals, and while they were delish, I have other things planned for myself. So, until she’s ready to enjoy a broader spectrum of yums, I won’t be nomsin’. When she’s ready though? Sign me up.
Let me know what you’re feeding your kiddos for lunch! Until then, I’ll be scraping peanut butter off my dining room floor, because this is my life.
