I am beyond excited to be sharing this post today. I have been using this beauty hack for YEARS and I feel like its saved me a bazillion dollars. I’m pretty sure I spent my bazillions on more beauty products but, you know…that’s another story.
ONE BEAUTY HACK. SO MUCH SAVING.
There is one thing that drives me absolutely bananas when it comes to beauty products, especially hair care, lotions, toothpaste and pretty much anything that comes in a tube or pump.
You purchase the product, use it, love it and then one day…you’re in the shower and you can’t get a drop of conditioner out of the tube. You try (oh, you try), but nothing. Nada. Even worse, you know there’s product left in the tube, but you’re mad so you chuck it or throw it under your bathroom counter to “deal with later” and end up buying something new.
Don’t do that anymore. This beauty hack will save you – bigtime.
CUT THE TUBE OPEN. It’s LIKE A BEAUTY PINATA
For years I was that girl. The one in the paragraph above who got so annoyed with product seeming empty but not actually being empty, that I’d either throw it in the garbage or toss it in a holding cell for another time (AKA, never).
I’m not sure when the lightbulb lit, but one day I was not going to let that conditioner tube ghost me, so I grabbed some scissors and got to carving. Guys, it was like a pinata, only except for candy, I was slapped in the face (hair?) with like, bazillion more washes.
SO, HERE’S WHATCHA’ DO
When you get to the point on any tube based product where you can’t get any more out of the tube (I mean, you’ve squished it and rolled it and…nada), grab yourself a pair of scissors and cut the tube in half. I’m using my daily moisturizer here as an example, but you can use whatever tube based product you have.
As you can see from the pics below, I cut the tube in half and there is TONS of product sticking to the sides (enough for almost an entire month if I snag what’s in the bottom of the tube and the top)! While you won’t always hit the jackpot (depends upon the product), I almost always get a few days to an entire month’s more worth of product by cutting it open and gaining direct access.
You may have to make multiple cuts depending upon how big the product is and how much is still sticking around – start by cutting it in half and use up whatever you can reach with your finger for however many days you can.
When you can’t reach anymore, add more cuts until you can reach the entire bottom (and top) of the tube and scrape out what’s in there.
STORE IT IN A MASON JAR OR BAGGY
I store my tube in a mason jar, primarily because I want to keep the empty tube safe from dust and cat paws. You can also store it in a ziplock baggy, Tupperware or whatever your heart desires.
The great thing about this beauty hack is that you can use it over and over again and save yourself a ton of money. I purchase the above moisturizer on subscription and was able to switch from every two months delivery to every three months delivery saving me almost $100 per year. Imagine using this hack for ALL the tube products you buy regularly – I mean…you can buy so many fun things for yourself with the savings!
Let me know if you have another awesome, money-saving beauty hack you swear by. I can’t imagine the amount of product I wasted before I started doing this!
